Yesterday I went to some local raw trails with about a dozen 10-16 year old kids. They are building jumps and just riding. Not super big jumps, but they were all into BMX as much if not more than me. They don't have any expectations more than to have a good day of riding. Half the kids had bought their bikes at our shop, the other half online.
While I was shooting videos and taking pictures I realized what I need to do to get the kids to buy from the shop instead of online. We need to be there for them. Starting today we will offer a sponsorship package to all kids who want to apply. I will go to every trail and riding spot in our area and recruit. I am going to set a March 1st deadline for submissions.
For their submission I am going to offer a 10% discount for the entire 2011 year in the form of a card like a school ID with their picture on it. From the contest we will select at least one kid that we will fully sponsor through the shop for a free complete bike and maintenence for 2011 and we will also offer a 20% off sponsorship to all of the kids who impress us (trail bosses, impressive riders, popular kids). We will sponsor these select kids in exchange for them to influence the rest of the kids at the trails to buy from Block rather than online. I know this will work.
We will also help the local kids host contests athe their trails and do the best we can to expand BMX in the AV
